Q Magazine

Q Magazine is a music magazine which is published once a month in the UK. The magazine was founded by Mark Ellen and David Hepworth. It is published by Beuar Media Group. Q's current editor is Paul Rees, who used to be the editor of the UK edition of Kerrang!, which is also a magazine published by Beuar Media Group.

Q Magazine has many different sections to it such as a review section, a new releases section, a reissue section, film and live concert reviews, and radio and TV reviews. Q rate all these things in their reviews with a star rating from 1 star to 5. If an album or a film have been given a good Q rating they usually use it to advertise their album/film as Q say it is good. 

Q also have a radio station and a TV channel. They are both very popular, the radio station was launched in 2008 and the TV channel was launched in 2000. The genre of music that Q presents in it's magazine and on their radio and TV channel is indie/rock/heavy

 

Q magazine is very popular and sells 80,000 copies a month.

Magazine Proposal

For my magazine I have got many ideas. As my magazine is a college magazine it will be aimed at people aged between 16 and 19. Obviously it will be aimed at males and females who are studying so all the content in my magazine will be appropriate to my target audience.


My magazine will be about different things. It will include things like enrichment courses, events inside and out of college, college band reviews, college sports and just general news about the surrounding areas. This will appeal to my target audience because they will all be involved in college one way or another, and most of the things in the magazine will be too.


My coverlines will usually be about students' achievements, student deals and stories about things that have happened in the surrounding areas. For example 'Emily Smith the straight A* student - find out her secret!' or something like 'Burglary in Waterlooville shops'. Things that will appeal to the students.

I am giving my magazine the title SDC News. I got existing students to vote for what title they liked best from a list of various different titles such as 'College Life', 'Southdowns Voice', 'Southdowns Today' and 'Life At Southdowns'. I think that these five sounded best so I chose them for people to vote out of.

I am going to use the font 'Communication Digital', as everybody who i asked (existing students) to vote a font out of a list of various different fonts chose this one. It's quite modern and appeals to younger people.

I decided that i am going to use a tagline and it is going to be underneath the title. It will say 'everything you need to know, right here!'. I have decided to do this because it will attract readers if they think that they will find out everything that they will need to know.

My front cover image is going to be of a student, and the main story wil be something about them. I will take photos of students around college first and look into stories that i can write about. Then i will get photos of the person/people involved in this story.

My magazine is going to be published every season. December, March, June/July, and September. Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn editions.

My magazine is going to be an A4 magazine, and will have a theme of blue, black and purple.
